No Man’s Sky is once again destined to be one of the most discussed games at E3 this year, and we’ll have to wait until the Sony press conference to learn more. In the meantime though, Hello Games has slipped a few screenshots under the door crack for us to peek at. The game has come a long way since last year, and the procedurally generated worlds are simply too gorgeous to think that a computer created them.
Of course, a human had to tell a computer how to generate these worlds, but chances are these are planets you’ll never see considering how many billions of them exist in No Man’s Sky’s universe. Hello Games’ artist Sean Murray has stated he wants to prove that procedural generation can create gorgeous art, and when compared next to his concept art, No Man’s Sky only gives credentials to his argument.
In fact, go ahead and see if you can pick out which pieces in the gallery above are concept art and which are actual screenshots. It’s almost uncanny how No Man’s Sky has replicated Murray’s style. Hint, the first four are screenshots: the one with the robots in the cave, the birds on the tropical planet, the desert sandworm, and the underwater shark and sub.
I still have no idea what to expect from No Man’s Sky if it ever launches, but that’s what makes it so intriguing. I’m tired of knowing everything about what a game has to offer before it comes out. Hello Games seems to have found a cure for that.
